OUR SPECIAL NEEDS HORSES

These are horses that are either elderly or that have physical disabilities.

Buck is a 19-year-old gelding with arthritis and a shoulder injury.

Buck and his buddy, Strike for Richard

Buck is in need of a joint supplement (chondroitin, glucosomine, msm or any combination thereof) and Advantage Senior feed.

Fancy was rescued on March 14, 2009, from a Clarksville breeder, along with 15 other starving horses.  Her right hind foot is crooked and needs special farrier care.

D.C. Reed trimmed Fancy's foot in April 2009.  It looks much better but needs repeated professional trimming.  Her leg and ankle are not straight, so the foot will continue to grow at an irregular angle.

Many thanks to Pet Arabians for sponsoring Fancy and paying for regular trimming.

STRIKE FOR RICHARD is a former racehorse that came to GMACER with a pulled suspensory ligament.  The suspensory has healed but he has developed a ring bone, which is a hard swelling that partially encircles the pastern.  Ring bone can have a variety of causes (we are not sure why Richard developed it) and may or may not cause the horse to become unrideable.   Richard is hard to keep weight on, so he requires a special diet and supplements.
(For more information on ring bone, go to
www.onlinehorseguide.org.uk/ringbonecauses.html.)

Richard is in need of Empowerment supplement and canola oil.
